This website is meant to be usable by everyone. It was built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, conformance level AA, which also underpin the European standard EN 301 549 and Austrian accessibility legislation.

Level of compliance

Based on my own review, this website is largely conformant with level AA.

What is in place

  • Full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
  • A meaningful document structure with heading levels, landmarks and a skip link to the content.
  • Contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and controls.
  • Text alternatives for all informative images; purely decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
  • Controls with a target size of at least 44 × 44 pixels.
  • Zoom up to 200 per cent without loss of content or function, and reflow down to 320 pixels.
  • Respect for the system settings for reduced motion and increased contrast.
  • Form fields with permanently visible labels, clear error messages and an error summary.
  • The website also works without JavaScript enabled.

Non-accessible content

  • Some linked PDF documents originate from earlier projects and are not fully accessible. I am happy to provide their content in an accessible form on request.
  • Linked videos on external platforms are outside my control and are not consistently subtitled.
  • A few historical photographs and diagrams contain text within the image. Their essential message is described in the text alternative.
